Karlovy Vary Winner opens the 10th jubilee Vukovar Film Festival

Hungarian film „It's not the time of my life“ that won at the prestigious film festival in Karlovy Vary one month ago opened 10th film festival, by the ministry of culutre Zlatko Hasanbegović, with open criticism towards Croatian Audiovisual Centre.

This year opening was attended by director Szabolcs Hajdu, who also holds the main role, as well as Orsolya Török-Illyés, Zsigmond  Hajdu, and Lujza Hajdu, director's wife and two children, who also play role sin the film. Beside films, the opening was marked by politics as the festival was opened by the minister of culture, Zlatko Hasanbegović, and was attended by Andrej Plenković and Zdravko Marić, Mayor of Vukovara Ivan Penava and other prominent members of HDZ-a. Minister congradulated the festival of being able to survive for 10 years considering the step-mothers relations of Croatian audiovisual centre that have other inclinations and prioritites.

Film “It is not the time of my life” is a facinating work made without the state support in funding, with 5000 US dollars , with the whole film taking place in the apartment where the director and his family live, and as Szabolcs Hajdu is the acadamie professor his 13 students have been doing the cinematography. Their children behave great before the cameras. After being filmed in just 18 days, it was invited to Karlovy Vari festival where it won Best film award. The Hungarian Film Fund has problems now as film „It's not the time of my life“ is their possible Oscar candidate, but they cannot apply with the film they did not finance.

Before this film a short film by Jasna Nanut, „Playing the tiger“ was screened. This is a love story between Krešimir Mikića and Ane Stunić, that was favoured by the critics. Jasna Nanut completed here academy degree in directing at the beginning of the year and is now preparing her first long feature, with the subject of male-female relationships.

All of those are just the introduction into the series of praised film to screen this week at the film festival in Vukovar. New Woody Allen, Jim Jarmusch and Pedro Almodovar, winner oft he festival in Cannes, „I,Daniel Blake“ by Ken Loach, „Graduation“ by Cristian Mungiu that won Best director in Cannes and a lot more can be seen in Vukovar. The Best Feature and Best Short film will be decided by the actress Anja Šovagović, producer Anita Juka and film critic Igor Tomljenović.
