Cristian Mungiu, the best Romaian director and triple awardee at Cannes Film Festival has brought to the Azure coast this year the title „Graduation“ and has won over both the audience and the critics, winning The Best Director award. Each of Mungiu's titles premiered on film festival in Vukovar, and the same goes for „Graduation“.

In the title „Graduation“ Mungiu tells a story of a respectable physician in a small Romania city who daughter has only high grades, and the success  at the state graduation will get her the scholarship in Great Britain. But just a few days before the graduation testing shebarely escapes the rape attempt and is under a lot of stress – so her father fears she will not perform on finals.  He want to provide her with the best chances and enters the closed circle of giving and receiving favors, accepting anything for his daughter to leave Romania.

It is no wonder that new Pedro Almodovar’s film Julieta will premiere on Vukovar Film Festival – the festivals screens only the finest European films. The 20th film in Almodovar’s carrier, from Cannes competition – “Julieta” returns to his roots – women.

The filmmaker took three shorts stories of Canadian writer Alice Munro and combined them into one. In the beginning, he admits, he wanted to make the film in English and has already contracted Meryl Streep for the main part, but finally decided for the Spanish version. The result is story of Julieta – mother who remembers meeting her husband, having their daughter, his death while fishing and her daughter abandoning her - never to return.  This pain for the unexplainable daughter’s leaving and bearing the great sorrow is the subject of “Juliete”. “In Spain mother and the child never break their bonds – while in US it is the opposite, the mother knows that the child is to leave one day”said Almodovar when explaining why he made the choice of the Spanish, and not the American version.
