Vukovar film festival held the Zagreb press conference - 84 films on ten locations for 10th edition!

10th Vukovar Film Festival – Danube Region Festival takes place this year from 22nd to 27th of August will have premiere screenings - best of the best titles from this year's film production. Winner from Cannes, Berlin and Karlovyh Vary festivals, by the world classics such as Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar and Jim Jarmusch will have their Croatian premieres in Vukovar

In competition for the awards are long, short and documentary films from the Danube region. Immediately after winning in Karlovy Vary, Hungarian filmThis is not my time” will open VFF on Monday with director and main actors from the film present for the opening. From the other long films in competition, Romanian film”Graduation” directed by Cristian Mungiu that won this year Palm d’Or for the best director in Cannes, German “Toni Erdmann” that also competed for Palm d’Or in Cannes this year, and the critics had only the best words for, and Croatian “Because of you” directed by Anđelo Juras stand out.

Category “World” contains premieres of masterpieces and cinema hits: new love comedy “Café Society” directed by Woody Allen, that opened this year’s Cannes festival and Ken Loach’s “I, Daniel Blake”  winner of Palm d’Or. Both titles will have their Croatian premiere in Vukovar, together with another winner from Cannes, “Captain Fantastic” that won the award “Un Certain Regard”

New Pedro Almodovar'sJulieta” and Jim Jarmusch's ”Paterson” are also in this category which is to be opened on Monday by new Jim Carney’s hit “Sing Street” – music story for the eighties. To please Jim Jarmusch fans there is also his documentary on Iggy Pop and bend The Stooges – “Gimme Danger”.

For the first time there is a new programme “Selected by Đelo Hadžiselimović” – a programme of mostly documentaries selected by – Đelo Hadžiselimović. Not to be explained to Croatian and regional audience, this is one of a kind selector famous in the region. His selection will be screened on “Bajadera” boat – waterbus and the spectators will cruise the Danube with popcorn and a drink, while enjoying the films. The first to be screened in the new documentary from the controversial Michael Moore “Where to invade next” followed by “Miles Ahead” – biography on Miles Davis by director and actor Don Cheadle.

Vukovar Film Festival – Danube Region Festival has it’s 10 jubilee year and will be held in four cities on ten locations. Best films from the largest world film festival will premiere on Vukovar locations: Terrace of the Agency for waterways, Eltz Castle Park, Cinestar Vukovar and Vukovarska ada – sand inland, in cinema Borovo and cinema Corner in Valpovo. For the first time the festival reaches to Osijek in cinema Uranija and to Beli Manastir Ethnology centre. The exclusive locations are screening on the cruise waterbus Bajadera – Vukovar attraction that will cruise in front of the Island of sports.

En exquisite collection of Scandinavian films take care that locations outside Vukovar in Borovo and Valpovo receive superb programming as well. On these locations, the audience will have a chance to see the film “Commune” for which Trine Dyrholm won The Best Actress Award on this year Berlinale, Danish “War” that was and Oscar nominatee for Best foreign film this year and the last part of the trilogy of crime films made by the books of hit-author Jussija Adlera-Olsena.

This year festival hold the record with five art workshops led by film and art professionals from Croatia. Those are Danube Scriptwriting Workshop led by Sanja Kovačević, From Idea to Realization led by director Ivan Salaj, Stop animation for the youngest led by director Zvonimir Rumboldt, Straw Workshop with sculptor Nikola Faller and Comics Workshop by comic enthusiast Davor Schunko.

Party zone this is in the ex-cinema in Radnički dom in Vukovar center and will bring performances from great band such as The Frajle and Soulfingers. Entrance to all concerts is free of charge.

„Ten years ago, mayor to Vukovar at that time, Mrs Zdenka Buljan, recognized the cultural value of film festival in the city on the Danube – Vukovar. In the last ten years from modest beginnings festival has became the place for premiere screenings of the best films from Danube region and the world. This is a fact no one can take from us” said festival director Igor Rakonić.

This year we have two juries – which is the practice that started last year. One jury will decide on long and short feature films with members: actress Anja Šovagović Despot, producer Anita Juka and film critic Igor Tomljanović. Documentary jury in international and is consisted of directors Anne Schiltz, Borislav Kolev and Huber Canaval.
