GENDER DOCUFILM FESTIVAL ROME 2012.  – BEST DOCUMENTARY

The documentary 'Outing' portrays the young archaeologist Sven, who found out during puberty that he feels sexually attracted to children. Sven openly talks about his paedophile inclination and his determination to never act on it. The film accompanies its protagonist over four years, and reveals his inner struggle. It raises questions regarding moral limits and the position of people like Sven with society.

Sebastian Meise was born in Tirol, Austria, in 1976. He first studied Painting and Philosophy, later Directing at the Vienna Film Academy. During his studies, he produced several short films and documentaries together with Thomas Reider. His first feature-length documentary ‚Outing‘ is closely linked to his multi-award-winning film debut ‚Stillleben‘ (Still Life). Sebastian Meise lives and works in Vienna.

Thomas Reider was  born in 1980. He studied Journalism and Dramatics at the University of Vienna, followed by studies of Script and Dramaturgy at the Vienna Film Academy. He first worked together with Sebastian Meise during their studies. Together, they produced short films, documentary works for cinema and television, a TV-mini-series and the feature film ‚Stillleben‘ (Still Life). Thomas Reider lives in Vienna and works as an independent writer and director.
