Synopsis

Matt Sweetwood – a Midwestern American in Germany - takes a humorous outside look at his complex new neighbours from a perspective he loves most but he knows the least about: beer. He believes that solving the mystery of the German beer culture may be the key to understanding German contradictions, misleading stereotypes, and insider drinking knowledge that Germans seem to share only among themselves. This  country, divided  by  thousands  of  different  traditions,  rules and  emotions,  is  seemingly  tied  together  by  beer.  Finally,  he  finds  his Germany, a place he called “Beerland”. It is a country filled with hundred heart-felt traditions, no matter how silly or serious, and  countless  ways  to  enjoy  beer.

Matt Sweetwood  was born  in 1971  in  Kansas  City,  Missouri.  Continuing  undergraduate  studies  at  California State University San Diego, Television and Film Department in 1990, Matthew developed professional skills with an emphasis in writing and directing. Between San Diego and L.A. worked  as  production  manager,  writer,  and  assistant director  on  various  independent projects.  In  1995  he  moved  to  Berlin,  Germany,  starting  a  career  as  a  writer  with  the agency Verlag der Autoren, Frankfurt, working on both fiction narrative and documentary film  productions.  His  documentaries  include  "Homemade  Hillbilly  Jam"  and  “Forgetting Dad” .
