FILM COPYRIGHT DEBATE AT VFF

Vukovar, hotel Lav, 25th of August 2012., Saturday, 12h

"Do we need a copyright ... Money or art?"

Leader:  Stribor Jurčić, copyright specialist

Interactive discussions on the protection and realization of authorship of copyright and related rights in the audiovisual field, as part of this year Pegaz’s authorship and copyright related rights and educational program for Croatian filmmakers, producers and performers ... again with the support of HAVC.

Copyright film program stands dispersed in film festivals around Croatia and  is not strictly limited by topics, but focused on detecting problems in COPYRIGHT section in all segments of the AV business ...

Since this is the first time that copyright education is held in Vukovar, and that such an opportunity for discussion does not exist in the area of Slavonia, our wish is that this expert panel involve as many film workers as possible.

DANUBE SCREENWRITING WORKSHOP

Was introduced in 2009.  Its mentor is Croatian Dramatist and Scriptwriter Mrs Irena Krcelic, co-founder of screenwriting workshop “Palunko” in 2002, under the Croatian Film Club Association. “Palunko” scriptwriting program is now celebrating its tenth anniversary.  Danube screenwriting workshop is a five-day free of charge workshop.

The workshop gives upcoming screenwriters an opportunity to work intensively on the development of their short feature film scripts.  The writers receive support of the mentor and also support of various professional film talents attending the festival.  The workshop is held in a safe environment that encourages both innovation and creative risk-taking.  Every year around 20th June we announce the workshop contest through various media (newspapers, press releases, VFF website).  The applicants have to write their own story on any given subject in a form of a story outline that consists of 24 words.  With the story outline the applicants send their Curriculum Vitae as well.

Mrs Krcelic chooses top five applicants with a particular talent for writing to participate during the festival and develop their own screenplays.  A basic criterion on choosing participants is the quality and a particular originality of their story.  Besides writing all day and developing their ideas into real scenarios, participants watch movies from the festival programme, talk to film talents who present their films at VFF and with that they establish a unique film experience par excellence.  In 2012 all participants were from Croatia.  However, in 2013 contest will involve participants from all European countries.

 FESTIVAL WORKSHOP

DURING THE FESTIVAL, 22-26th of August, 2012

Was introduced in 2011.  Its mentor is Mr Marko Dugonjic, Croatian Scriptwriter from Gunja Studio Creative Ideas.  A Multi-media centre Studio of Creative Ideas has its roots in literature & journalist section established in 1960 when a new school building was opened in Gunja.  It promoted literature and reading culture and its movie section promoted a film culture.  Video/film activities date from 2003 and it is probably most representative segment of its creative work-field.  In a 7-year activity, the studio produced 35 films - amongst them 5 features, 3 experimental and 27 documentaries.

Festival workshop, which is free of charge takes place during the festival and instructs participants (up to 10) who are all young Film Academy students on how to make a real documentary/short film.

This year’s students have had a premiere screening of the short film “Jedine” (“The only”), made entirely in their production at 6VFF.  The film was screened on the closing night of the festival and it has received a lot of attention and applauding amongst audiences.

Premiere screening of the documentary film “About VFF 2011” in production of last year’s students of the Festival Workshop was presented on the opening night of 6th VFF in front of 500 audiences on two locations.  We certainly intend to keep Festival Workshop activity at 7th VFF in 2013.

INTRODUCING THE CONTEST FOR BEST SHORT SCREENPLAY

on a topic related to The Croatian War for Independence based on a personal experience.  It is important to note that the applicants can be from all over the world but under the condition that they have, in some way participated in Croatian War for Independence.

An invitation to apply for the contest was organised by The Ministry of Veteran’s, HAVC (Croatian Audiovisual Centre) and HRT (Croatian Radio Television).  The contest ends on December 1st 2012 and the winner will have an opportunity to present his/her film at 7th Vukovar Film Festival.  This contest is a novelty of VFF and it will become a permanent activity.  Best screenplay will get the prize money and will be turned into a film.
