Synopsis

Brainy is a short drama about Brian, 11, is an imaginative boy who is dealing with the loss of his grandfather by constructing a series of rituals. In Brian's mind his grandpa is still alive, living up in space and Brian has a mission to collect up dead animals. The dead animals can be launched up to the stars to live again together with Brian's dead grandpa. By blocking out his mum and following his mission Brain manages to escape confronting the truth that he will never see his Granded again. That is until the day Brian meets Denice, 14, his slightly older neighbour, from whom he learns that no matter how much we wish for them, some things just aren’t possible.

Daniel Borgman was born 1981, Dunedin, New Zealand. After studying Film Science at Otago University, he moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he has worked as a visual effects artist and film colourist on numerous feature film projects. Graduated from the Danish alternative film school Super16 in 2012. His first short "The Man & the Albatross" (2007) premiered in the Leopards of Tomorrow competition at the Locarno Film Festival. His second short film "Lars and Peter" (2009) competed in Cannes' Short Film Competition and was nominated for a Danish Film Academy Robert. His first feature film "The Weight of Elephants" (2013) was selected for Berlin Forum.
