Yesterday evening, in the crowded hall of Hrvatski dom Vukovar, the 11th Vukovar Film Festival was officially opened. The evening celebrated the seventh art and announced six intense festival days that are ahead of us. During the day, a large number of guests arrived and additional tickets were in high demand. Even though our politicians generally avoided this year's festival, their place was taken by film professionals and guests of the Festival. The greatest attention was attracted by the arrival of the Hungarian director, Ildiko Enyedi, whose drama On Body and Soul, won three most important awards at this year's Berlin Film Festival, among which is the Golden Bear award for the best film. The modest filmmaker said only a few words and let her film reveal what she has to say, while the Romanian director of the short film Written Unwritten, Adrian Silisteanu, expressed his delight with the city on the Danube and the film selection.

The festival was officially opened by Iva Hraste Sočo, from the Croatian Ministry of Culture and the audience was greeted by the festival director, Igor Rakonić, who proudly announced another rich edition of the Festival. Among other speakers were, Daniel Rafaelić from the Croatian audiovisual center and the deputy major of Vukovar, Marijan Pavliček. Media attention was mainly devoted to one of the most awarded actors of the region and this year's member of the main jury, Emir Hadžihafizbegović, as well as Đelo Hadžiselimović, the Croatian legend of documentary films, who is responsible for the choice of documentaries shown on the first floating cinema, Bajadera Boat.

Vukovar audience was stunned and rather surprised by the powerful drama, On Body and Soul, which deals with the psychology of human relationships and our desire for love and connection. The film received a positive response from the audience despite its complexity, which was an additional confirmation of its quality and impressiveness.

Today's program will continue to please film lovers, because at 21:15, we are showing Loveless, an awarded film directed by one of the most significant film directors Andrey Zvyagintsev, at Castle Eltz Park. The film deals with a typical Russian everyday life, in which a dysfunctional family ends up leading a selfish struggle over the division of property, while their neglected child disappears.

Josef Hader's comedy, Wild Mouse, will surely provide entertainment, while telling a funny story about the Austrian middle-class's private fears of failure and social decline. The film is going to be shown at 20:30, at the terrace of Agency for inland waterways.

On Bajadera boat, visitors can watch an enlightening documentary, That Sugar Film, by Damon Gameau and enjoy a romantic, panoramic ride over the magnificent Danube.

Beer lovers will surely enjoy Czech Beer War, a documentary directed by Jan Látal, about traditional beer production and the national pride that the beer represents for the Czech people and how the two are in danger from foreign multinational companies that started to acquire the main Czech breweries.
